an 18 years old college professor !

Labels: , , , ,

as we (or at least I) struggle to finish up my degree in engineering, it feels strange that someone who's younger is already professor. this is the story of Alia Sabur who's recognized as the youngest college professor in history, breaking a 300-year-old record.

Her education continued at Drexel University, where she earned an M.S. and a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering.
when she was much younger at the age of 8 month, she was able to talk and read, how amazing is that, while she finished elementary school by the age 5, that's the age when most kids enter school.

i'll leave you with the full story and the exclusive interview on the following link.

Test How Your Website Look Like in Various Browsers

Labels: , , , , ,

I installed most major browsers in my computer. The main objective is to check how web layouts work in other browsers (Firefox is my default browser). But testing the site in different browser is impractical, and also i can’t test websites in different Operating Systems. However, the nice people in Browsershots can help me to overcome these problems.

Browsershots makes screenshots of your web design in different browsers. It is a free open-source online service created by Johann C. Rocholl. When you submit your web address, it will be added to the job queue. A number of distributed computers will open your website in their browser. Then they will make screenshots and upload them to the central server here.

Since it’s free and volunteer based project, you can also take a sneak at current screeshots taken (Also in the list, you can take a look at upcoming Chris Pirillo’s free Wordpress theme here). There are 83 computers run by volunteers to make browser screenshots and us happy, you can find the list, OS and systems used here and also stats request queue here.

You can also support BrowserShots by paying a very cheap price here and get your priority processing which includes:

  1. Screenshot requests will be processed immediately.
  2. You will often get 30 to 50 screenshots within 2 to 5 minutes.
  3. Get screenshots of any web address, as often as you want.
  4. Instant activation when you pay with PayPal.
  5. No need to extend requests to avoid expiration.
  6. Your screenshots are private (only you will see them, or somebody who already knows your URL).
  7. Ad-free web interface.
  8. Dedicated email support from johann@browsershots.org.
  9. Your payment supports an open-source project. The price for one month is €10 EUR or $15 USD.
If you purchase priority for a whole year, you’ll get 12 months for the price of 10.

Result of Robin Malau Dot Com is here. And it’s also available as downloadable zipped file. It’s a surprise to see the site in different browsers and Operating Systems, it doesn’t work in some of them!

However my mistakes which you don’t need to repeat is that I choose too many web browsers (a default option) which many of its never even come to my blog. By sneaking to your Analytics tools (mine is Woopra and Google Analytics) ahead of using BrowserShots, you can prioritize which browsers and Operating System you would like to test against.

MySpace Suicide

Labels: , , , , , , , ,

well, this might have been a few days ago news, but caught my interest that a 49 years old woman and couple of others were involved in a case of a teenager's suicide. Apparently the woman had a fake account claiming that she's a 16 years old boy called "Josh".

The victim "Meier" was convinced that the world would've been a better place with out her, while she have actually suffered clinical depression, and not long after she hanged herself in her bedroom. Building the case is a difficult task, given that there is no federal law against cyberbullying, but she's charged for "unauthorized access" to MySpac's computers

Schedule incoming phone calls

Labels: , , , , ,

I'll introduce you to two kinds of services where they'll call you on your cell phone any time you choose instantly.

If you've ever felt left out in a room full of people talking into their cell phones instead of to each other? The Popularity Dialer schedules recordings to call your cell phone at a predetermined time to give the impression that you too are "in demand."

The recordings are hilarious - and pretty realistic! - one-sided conversations with a male or female "friend" or your "boss" timed just so that you'd respond in kind. Ok fine, we're not suggesting that you actually use this to seem more popular, but it could be just the thing to escape a bad date or drawn-out meeting.

another similar service is provided by PhoneMyPhone, it helps you find your lost cell phone, if lets say you've misplaced your cell phone around the house and don't have another phone on hand to call it up to locate it? Give your number to web site PhoneMyPhone and they'll instantly ring you up. Aside from instant calling to locate your phone, PhoneMyPhone will also schedule phone calls at specific times, similar to previously mentioned Popularity Dialer, to get you out of that boring meeting or awful date if you need it. As for sounding off the ring when you misplace your phone—it may not get a pizza to your door like Google Maps used to, but the easy-to-remember PhoneMyPhone should ensure a quick recovery from the recesses of your couch cushions.

Labels: , , , , ,

for games lovers, here's the game that broke all times records, "Grand Theft Auto IV," . in just a single week from releasing the game about 926,000 copies were sold making about $500 mil, 3.6 million units on its opening day, bringing in approximately $310 million globally.

"We knew Grand Theft Auto IV would break new ground in terms of the player's experience, with its compelling story line, extraordinary gameplay and action that ranges over a broad urban canvas. Now, it has broken sales and rating records as well. Grand Theft Auto IV's first week performance represents the largest launch in the history of interactive entertainment, and we believe these retail sales levels surpass any movie or music launch to date," said Strauss Zelnick, Chairman of Take-Two.
